I finished my first week of Vertical Mastery and I am feeling really good about this program. I’m really enjoying the workouts since I get a nice mix of plyometric and weighted exercises, not to mention a day of practicing dunking. Also there is plenty of emphasis on improving single leg jumping since this is a huge weakness for me. My legs have been a little sore but I definitely feel like I have more energy.

Some of the exercises were completely new to me and I had to take a little slow the first time. This lowered the intensity some but in the long run I’m sure it will be better to do these correctly. I felt like the number of sets/reps was a little low sometimes but I’m guessing this will get tougher as I turn up the intensity.

Obviously the workouts won’t do much good without proper rest and nutrition, and I’m pretty pleased with how I did this week. I didn’t have any problem getting enough rest which I’m expecting will be the case all summer since I’m definitely not too busy. I could have eaten a little cleaner but I’m not going to get too hung up on this. I would rather indulge every once in a while to keep my sanity than try to have the cleanest diet possible but burn out after a month.

Overall I think this was a great start to my Vertical Mastery program. I’ll keep you updated on how week 2 goes!
